Position Summary

The Tax Senior functions well in a dynamic, challenging and growth environment and will:
 
  • Understand the firm’s programs and processes, especially with respect to tax preparation, review and planning software.
  • Prepare the firm’s complex returns and develop an ability to review basic and fundamental tax returns and complex tax projections.
  • Begin to develop advanced technical expertise, e.g. through advanced education or continuing education oriented toward an advanced skill set or industry expertise.
  • Utilize formal onboarding and training program, as well as input from current client service managers, to develop knowledge of clients and demonstrate knowledge of such and technical skills.
  • Manage client load of assignee client assignments efficiently
  • Contribute to process improvement
 
The Tax Senior will have interaction with all the firm’s service departments and the administration team. This position will have direct client interaction throughout the year and will act as a client service manager (CSM) on several clients, responsible for developing and implementing tax services for clients, as well as identifying and facilitating assistance for other client needs. The tax senior will also be a key member of the tax service team serving our more difficult and complicated clients, including coordinating the collection of information; preparation of returns; and preparation of income tax projections.

Technical Skills
  • Initially, demonstrate a solid educational foundation with a degree in accounting, potentially an advanced degree in taxation and an ability to understand bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Be able to prepare complex entity level and individual tax returns, including at least some experience with multi state, consolidated, foreign bank reporting, etc.
  • Ability to review less complex tax returns prepared by staff and outsource providers.
  • Demonstrate fundamental understanding of tax law and ability to provide client recommendations for possible tax saving opportunities.
  • Provide assistance to tax consulting personnel and tax managers in performing various tax strategy analysis and computations of benefits and impact of such.   
  • Address government agencies tax notifications, document requests and audit support.
  • Ability to prepare Trust Tax returns.
  • Ability to perform fundamental tax research.
Client Service
  • Client interaction and liaison for various tax projects, including gathering appropriate information and resolve tax related problems and notices.
  • Ability to review and identify tax planning opportunities.
  • Provide continuous tax return process during the year by interacting with client and staying current on changes to the client's tax situation.
  • Provide superior service to our clients such that the clients provide referrals to their friends and colleagues.
Training and Personnel
  • Develop a personal Balance Score Card, designed to define steps needed to grow and achieve personal professional objectives, compatible with firm needs.
  • Provide technical on the job training to tax preparers and outsource providers. Participate in the Onboarding program of tax staff professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Provide informal mentoring to staff members in helping them progress on the BSC.
  • Participation in department activities as a team player on behalf of the department and the firm.

  • Participate in a minimum of 40 hours of CPE per year and to share with department and firm personnel
  • Implement personal growth plan to increase technical skills.
Preferred Attributes
Successful applicants will have a minimum of 2-4 years experience in preparation of tax returns in a CPA firm.
  • Active CPA preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required.  Desire to pursue advanced degree preferred.
