Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Legal-Tax Assistant to assist with Talley Law Group, LLP and Talley LLP’s Tax Compliance practice.  A Legal-Tax Assistant will need to excel at organization, pay close attention to detail, and be inquisitive enough to research independently to find the answers they are looking for. Educational qualifications include at least a two-year certification and experience in a law and/or tax firm. An Associate Degree is preferred, but not required. Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office products is preferred, but not required as well.

Legal-Tax Paraprofessional will work with the Tax-Legal Operations Manager to assist in the allocation of firm resources, i.e., professionals, paraprofessionals and staff; coordinate calendars and assist the Partners and Managers prioritize client projects; track and follow up on information required to execute client projects; track completion of projects and project statuses; communicate and coordinate assignments with the internal staff; and assist in maintaining the firm’s workflow technology.]

Essential Functions / Key Deliverables
  1. Technical Deliverables (experience in the below is preferred, but will train in areas not familiar with)
    1. Estate Plan assembly
      1. Create Binders
      2. Make copies
      3. Cover Letter assembly
      4. Edit, proofread, and revise all letters to clients on attorney’s behalf
      5. Create and prepare checks for legal partner approval
      6. Electronic Filing
    2. Prepare responses to taxing authorities regarding tax notices and organize supporting information for taxpayers under audit
      1. Drafting transfer deeds, business license applications, LLC operating agreements, secretary of state filings, corporate articles and bylaws,
    3. Research and file registered entity names, articles of incorporation, etc.
    4. Ensure clients maintain annual/biennial compliance with Secretary of State and/or SOI record requirements
    5. Draft updated minutes to business entities
    6. Assist with Trust administration and accounting
    7. Draft/edit/finalize/file emails and client memorandums
    8. Ability to review, identify, and correct errors on documentation, shipping labels, etc.
  2. Client Service
    1. Act as a client liaison for Talley Law Group, LLP and Talley LLP including gathering appropriate information   
    2. Draft and manage engagement letters
    3. Assist professionals in delivering the various services of the firm.
    4. Appointment scheduling
    5. Perform follow-ups and send reminder emails
  3. Project and Task Management
    1. Set up of projects, milestones and tasks in firm project management software program(s)
    2. Update and manage daily project and task reporting for self and professionals

Preferred Attributes
Successful applicants will have a minimum of 2 years of experience as an administrative assistant in a law or tax compliance firm and the following qualities:
  • Associate Degree is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain strict confidentiality on all matters (personal and professional)
  • Must be a highly motivated individual with a high level of initiative
  • Must have an attitude of willingness to work outside defined job responsibilities
  • Must be comfortable with daily time entry requirements
  • Must be comfortable with learning new software and using technology as a communication tool
  • Social and people friendly

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong command of English language
